Abs Toning: Get Started Now

Begin your journey to a fitter and leaner you. Do not waste time waiting for the perfect time to do it. The key to losing weight is to actually do something about it. Waiting will never accomplish anything.

Many people make up excuses and say that they will begin their diet and exercise regimen next week or next month. But when that day or month comes, they are still not willing to go to the gym or run using their treadmill.

You need to do it now and do not look back. Throw away those nasty, high-caloric junk food you have in the refrigerator and cupboard. Join your local gym so that you can begin working out by lifting weights and running on the treadmill.

We all want a trimmer and slimmer waist but that will not take shape if you spend most of your time on the couch watching television.

Men are more likely to gain fat around their midsection while women are more likely to store fat in their buttocks and thighs. This gives rise to the apple or pear shape that men and women assume as they gain weight.

Abs toning can only be accomplished through exercise. But hold your horses. Do not do thousands and thousands of sit-ups or crunches. You need to only do a couple of sets and repetitions, just enough to work them up.

Your ab muscles are the same as any other muscle in your body. They need time to rest and heal. When you overwork the abs, it will not have time to heal itself. The tissues that have been healing and in repair will be torn again. This defeats the purpose of building muscle.

Diet plays a role when you want your abs to show. You will need to reduce your caloric intake. Reducing caloric intake does not mean you have to starve yourself. Shaving off 500 to 1000 calories of your usual 4000 calorie a day (if you eat that much and are an overweight individual) will have an impact already.

For example, for healthy individuals (healthy, normal weight) looking to lose weight for toning, nutritionists suggest that women should consume a minimum 1200 calories daily so that health is maintained. For men, 1500 calories must be consumed on a daily basis in order for him to maintain normal functions. This is the baseline of caloric intake. If they eat lesser than that, the body will not be receiving the nutrition it needs for nourishment.

For overweight and obese individuals, you need to consult your doctor and nutritionist to know how much calories you should be consuming daily for you to lose weight without sacrificing your body’s health.
