<p>If you want to be able to show off those washboard abs in time for summer, then you must realize that getting your abs to pop out or visible takes plenty of patience. If you are naturally slim with a body fat percentage that is low, then you are lucky. You can easily get toned abs that people will notice.</p>
<p>But, most of us are not that lucky enough to have won in the genetics lottery. Most of us are chubby or are prone to gaining weight. We have to do extra work in order for us to get the abs to show.</p>
<p>You must understand that everyone has abdominal muscles. It is there and you have it. The muscles support the many functions of the body such as breathing and the protection of internal organs.</p>
<p>The main problem that we experience is that fat completely covers it, making it invisible to the eye. Your abdominal muscles will not show if your body fat percentage is high. You must try your best to lower it down to 10 percent and lower.</p>
<p>In order for you to get the abs to show, you must combine an intense workout regimen of cardio, weightlifting, and diet. With your diet, you should not have to starve yourself. You just have to pick foods that are low in calories and are low in glycemic index.</p>
<p>Eating excessive amounts of carbs/sugar will result to the conversion of fat. Limit sugar intake but do not completely remove it from your diet. Your body needs the energy, especially your brain.</p>
<p>As for working out, you must increase your cardio. Through running, cycling, and swimming, you can increase your heart rate and your fat burning process. Exercise will use up the stored fat that is present all over your body.</p>
<p>In order to get toned abs, remember to let the muscles rest after working it out. Just like your pecs, biceps, and other muscles in the body, it needs time to mend itself after getting stretched and torn. The rest period will allow the body to build the muscle. Eating sufficient amounts of protein is vital to the process because amino acids are the building blocks of muscle.</p>
<p>You can perform crunches and other variations such as the bicycle crunch, which is regarded as one of the best abdominal exercises, because it engages the different parts of the abdominal muscles.</p>
<p>Remember not to overtrain because doing so will put all of your efforts in building the ab muscles in vain. Eat right, exercise regularly, and in time, you will get to see those elusive abs that you cannot wait to show off.</p>

<p>The exercise is simple. Lie facing up on the floor and put both hands on both sides of the head, supporting it lightly. The next step is to bring your left knee to your chest while lifting the shoulder blades off the mat, almost bringing the knee and the right elbow together.</p>
<p>Repeat the same process on the other side, the right knee towards the chest, almost touching the left elbow. Alternate the process. Continue this pedaling-like motion 12 to 16 repetitions in three sets.</p>

<p>We have heard all the stories of people doing everything they can, from eating very little to exercising excessively with the hopes of achieving those cover-worthy abs. We are constantly bombarded with images of celebrities showing off their washboard ab muscles on tv, movies, and on magazines.</p>
<p>What can we really do get those abs?</p>
<p>The truth is, we all have abdominal muscles. Men and women have them because the muscles serve a number of important functions such as support and protection. The big problem is that it lies underneath adipose tissues, commonly known as fat.</p>
<p>Diet and exercise—they are the 2 proven ways on how you can achieve those elusive abs. Diet is very important because what you eat affects your body. If your diet consists mainly of processed, sugary, and fatty foods, then your body will just store the fat all over your body.</p>
<p>Exercise is another important part of the equation because when you engage in activities, you work your muscles and the muscles burn off the fat to be used as energy. Cardio and weight lifting helps tone the muscles.</p>
<p>Toning your abs is possible but remember not to overtrain it. Train it intensively because this will force the muscles to develop and grow. When you feel like the routine is getting easier and easier to do, then you need to intensify and change the routine. This will challenge the body so that it can continue to grow.</p>
<p>When the abs have become used to the exercise, it does not continue to grow anymore because there is nothing to “repair”. It is not as challenged as it is supposed to be.</p>
<p>When you are trying to intensify the workout, you have to gradually do it so that you would not cause an injury to your body.</p>
<p>One mistake that men and women commit is that they do not allow the body, specifically the muscles to relax. After performing the crunches and other exercises, you have to rest the abs for two to three days. During the resting period, do not perform abdominal exercises. Allow the body to repair the muscles so that it can grow.</p>
<p>Start toning your abs by using a number of exercises that specifically target a certain part of the abdominal muscles. For the obliques, you can perform the oblique crunch. For the rectus abdominis muscle (the six pack), you can perform the bicycle crunch. This exercise is the best routine that really targets the muscles. Just remember two things: diet and exercise.</p>

<p>We all have a six pack. Yes, we all do. Now some people may contest that, and the best thing we should do is to back to our Anatomy lessons. Every human being has abdominal muscles. Breathing is assisted because of it and the muscles work to support the trunk. The reason why they are elusive and why we do not see is because a pad of fat tissue covers them. Years and years of eating excess food and the lack of movement resulted in the build up of fat all over our body.</p>
<p>Sculpting your abdominal muscles is not that easy but there is a proven way on how to make them visible. Through the time and tested: <em>diet</em> and <em>exercise</em>. These two things are the two most important factors that you need to consider. Diet is a big factor in getting your abs to show. With proper diet and a slight reduction of caloric intake, the body is given the chance to burn the fat that was stored in different locations in the body, most especially the abdomen.</p>
<p>Increased caloric intake of sugary food and high-fat foods (and the lack of exercise to burn it off) are the most common reasons why many of us are ballooning. Obesity is a growing problem (pun not intended) all over the world and if people do not change their lifestyle soon, they will end up suffering from various diseases associated with being overweight and obese such heart attack, stroke, hypertension, and so much more.Exercise is another factor that plays an important role when you decide to sculpt your abs. Through increased and intense exercise, you build muscle and you also use muscle to burn off the fat. Through aerobic exercise such as running and cycling, the body becomes a fat-burning machine.</p>
<p>Exercise not only makes you fitter but it makes you a much happier person. This is due to the release of feel-good hormones that we all know as endorphins. Combine these two factors (proper diet and intense exercise) and you will surely see the results of your hard work. Eventually, you will see that your abdomen has become smaller and much trimmer.  Now do not commit the mistake of comparing your progress to others around you. Our body is different from each other. Some have a higher metabolic rate, while others are born to have much slower metabolic rate. Just stay on track and continue with the program that you are following. When you pursue health, you will become a much better person, inside and out.</p>
